Journal Prompts

Journaling is a healthy way to process emotions through writing expression. Many find getting words down on paper allows them to see what they are feeling in a different way and heal over time.

These journal prompts can be completed in no particular order. You can write a prompt every day or come back when you are able. Journaling is personal and just for you, let the words flow.

Writing down your thoughts and feelings can help you to see them more clearly

  • What does closure look like for you?

  • Write about a favorite day with the person that died.

  • What do you need from others in order to feel supported?

  • In what ways does your grief show up for you?

  • Give your grief a color, what would it be a why?

  • Imagine you were writing a letter to the person that died, what would you say?

  • In what ways have you changed since they died? In what ways are you the same?

  • Do you think the person that died would be proud of you now? Why or why not?

  • How do you celebrate important dates and anniversaries?

  • How do you take care of yourself when you are feeling down?

  • How can you communicate to others what you need?
